Bold, Brave & Brilliant -Hornsey Girls excel again!
Despite the challenges of the last few months, results at Hornsey reflected the hard work that students have put in over the course of their 5 years at the school. ‘Elated’ and ‘relieved that demonstrating hard work pays off’ were some of the reactions from students collecting their GCSE grades.
Many subject areas ably demonstrated strong outcomes for students with STEM subjects being particularly high performing including Computer Science, Triple science and Product Design – areas where students achieved nearly a grade and a half above expected progress. Representing the breadth of the curriculum offer of the school, English, Media, and Drama also reflected strong 9-5 passes.

- Lizzie achieved nine grade 9’s and one 7.
- Zahira achieved seven grade 9’s, and three 8’s

- Kadija achieved two grade 9’s, seven grade 8’s and one grade 7
Lizzie spoke of the “roller-coaster,” 2020 has been with lockdown and uncertainty surrounding exam results. Relieved hard work over the course of her time at school has paid off, she will be studying A Level Chemistry, Maths and Geography at Latymer. Mabel summed up her results as being, “unreal,” and will be pursing A levels in English literature, Geography and Spanish. Inaya, a budding medic is now one step closer to her dream as she scooped up one grade 9 and nine grade 8’s. Sevgul was simply brought to tears upon opening her envelope, overjoyed by her science results which she hopes will allow her to one day become a Vet or Doctor.
Students achieved highly in both English and Maths giving students the opportunity of choosing their next steps in education, work or training. Maths continues it’s three year improvement journey, whilst English remains a firm strength with 70% of students achieving 9-5.
Mr Johnson said ‘As Director of Learning for the last 3 years it was great to see their smiles, hear their screams of joy and relief as they opened their results’ Angela Rooke, Acting Headteacher summed up the day by responding with ‘We’ve supported and cared for the students over their 5 years with us and could not be more proud that they have results that truly reflect their journeys over that period of time. Class of 2020 has had an unforgettable year for many reasons but one thing is for certain the resilience, grit and altruism they have displayed will ensure they are not forgotten. Our broad and balanced curriculum means their paths ahead are varied and exciting. As with all Hornsey Girls we know they will remain bold, brave & brilliant.
