Hornsey School for Girls celebrates strong GCSE results and student resilience

Hornsey School for Girls is celebrating another year of strong GCSE outcomes following results day on Thursday 20th August 2026. Students’ hard work and resilience were on display as the school retained attainment above the national average and pupils secured the grades they need for their next steps in education, training or work. After months of hard work, today is a moment to celebrate the achievements, resilience and dedication of our students and staff.

Top-performing students were particularly notable: when looking at the top ten pupils in isolation, they achieved a remarkable 94 grades at 9–7 across their subjects. Our highest performing student, Nina Neville, was delighted with eight straight grade 9’s, with many other students in the top 10 not far behind! Subjects that have performed consistently above national levels for many years include English, History and Modern Foreign Languages, reflecting sustained teaching strength and pupil commitment to working hard.

The results mark the culmination of five years of study for this cohort, with staff praising the determination shown in what has been an increasingly demanding assessment landscape. The school highlights the impact of the move to numerical grading and the concentrated periods of intensive exam scheduling on students’ wellbeing, and its leadership says the outcomes are testament to the focus and perseverance of the students.

Headteacher, Kuljit Rahelu said, "Undertaking these courses has become harder and harder for students as the move to numerical grading and concentrated periods of intensive exam scheduling have a huge impact on our students and their wellbeing. We are immensely proud of all students of all capabilities who have all achieved the grades they need for their next steps. Well done to all our students, staff and families. We are incredibly proud of you."

Ms Odugu, one of the parents in attendance, said ‘It’s congratulations to all the staff and school team as well as our children who are so happy. This is a stressful day for all – I had to check my blood pressure this morning!’ Something I think every educator can relate to

The school maintainis strong key stage performance measures. Pastoral support and targeted interventions aimed at safeguarding student wellbeing and maximising achievement were credited with helping many pupils reach their potential, alongside the dedication of teaching staff across departments.
