Girls Dazzle in our Winter Showcase

As a leading secondary school in the community, we held our much-anticipated Winter Showcase on Thursday 4th December, celebrating the exceptional talents of our students across a broad spectrum of performing arts. The event brought together solo musicians, drama groups, and dance ensembles and of course our amazing Steel Pans to highlight the school’s commitment to creative excellence. The evening started with a range of stalls showcasing homemade products and bakes by students.

The programme featured an impressive array of performances, beginning and ending with the vibrant sounds of steel pans, including a stirring finale of the popular piece Titanium. Solo acts demonstrated remarkable skill with trombone, voice, and piano, captivating the audience with their individual artistry. Drama groups from Year 7 to Year 11 presented thought-provoking pieces that explored contemporary themes such as artificial intelligence, mental wellbeing, responsibility, and parenting, reflecting the school’s dedication to addressing relevant social issues through the arts. The whole evening was held together by Demi and Martha who MC'd the event with humour throughout - they were brilliant hosts!

Dance performances showcased a variety of styles, including the dynamic ‘Step into Dance’ and a compelling  ‘Bullet Proof’, highlighting the versatility and energy of the students. This diverse programme not only entertained but also underscored the school’s focus on nurturing a wide range of performing arts disciplines.

Ms Rooke, Deputy Headteacher and Interim Head of Performing Arts, said, “Our commitment to Performing Arts is a central foundation of our school and nights like these, and our recent Fame! Production show what immense talent our staff and students have.”

Hornsey School for Girls has a proud tradition of fostering creativity alongside academic achievement, providing students with opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, and communication skills through the arts. The Winter Showcase is a key event in the school calendar, reflecting our vibrant cultural life and inclusive ethos.

We could not run these events without the amazing performing arts team - Ms Bernard, Ms Munson, Ms Jamerah, Mr Storey and Ms White supported by a team of volunteer support and teaching staff behind the scenes. We also want to shout out to the HSA who managed an exteremely busy refereshments area in the LRC before the production began!

Parents, carers, and members of the local community are encouraged to support these events and celebrate the talents of our students - we had over 200 involved in this evening and we hope the range and breadth of the different performances show what so many individuals can do when they work together!
