Product Design - Textiles
Why study Product Design - Textiles?
Studying Textiles at A Level is excellent preparation for any business or design course in addition to a career in Retail, Advertising, the Graphic Industry, Textiles, Marketing or Fashion Design.
It is an excellent opportunity to develop your creativity and entrepreneurial skills by learning to apply knowledge and understanding to a range of technological surroundings.
What will I study?
You will have the opportunity to visit museums and galleries including the Business Design Centre, V&A Museum, University of London, The Design Museum as well as go on industry visits. At A2 level you will need to find a client to create a design for.
Unit 1: Materials, Components & Application.
Unit 2: Learning Through Designing and Making. Students create a design portfolio and a product.
Unit 3: Design & Manufacture.
Unit 4: Design & Making Practice. Students create a design portfolio and a product.
How is the course assessed?
Units 1 and 3 are assessed via exams and units 2 and 4 are via coursework.
What grades do I need to study Textiles at HSC?
You will need at least a GCSE grade C in Design as well as four C grades in other subjects, one preferably in English.
