Our School App Stay connected on the go...
The future waits for no one...
Really I should start with an apology and belated new year greetings to you all as it has been an unforgivable three weeks since I last wrote...so sorry and happy new year!
We are very much in the thick of the year, and teachers and students are preparing for key dates and events at the school. I will unashamedly focus on year 11 for today - but its not to ignore the great things happening at key stage 3 (Year 9, your options are coming...) and Years 12 and 13 (Fantastic assembly and feedback from The Economist and Coppafeel!)
For year 11, senior members of staff started guidance meetings as part of our careers and information curriculum for our young people. I imagine as a student, there's natural anxiety when you're asked to go to the headteacher's office for a meeting! I can promise you it isn't all bad. The meetings allow us some one to one time with individual students to understand how to best support them in their next steps. I hope as many year 11's as possible will consider our very high performing sixth form - but also, if that isn't the right move, we can highlight other providers and courses that will help in the next stages.
I am hugely impressed that students are coming to these meetings having thought hard about their futures. This isn't a school that isn't ambitious for its students, and at the end of five years, you can really see what the school has achieved in the next generation of future leaders in all disciplines. I think our students are resilient, confident, mature and forward thinking - and this is proved in those interactions.
Change, the future, challenges - these can't be stopped by sheer will. Instead, by being pragmatic, by being educated, by being informed and recognising the big picture in our lives, we ensure we can adapt and succeed in changing environments. Darwin said '...Its not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one most adaptable to change' I think its a tough quote to argue with.
The future, really doesnt, wait for anyone to catch up...
