Another A Level Success for HSC!
Sweeping the board with a 100% pass rate at A-level (A*-E), Hornsey Sixth Form College is proud to announce outstanding student achievements in this summer’s results. With another year of major changes to A-levels in England and further subjects being reformed with grades awarded for the first time this year, HSC students have significantly exceeded national averages and delivered an outstanding set of results with 85% of students achieving A*-C grades and 33% scoring the highest grades of A*-A grades.
Our sixth formers and staff have much to celebrate today with 100% of students achieving A*-C grades in English Literature, History and Sociology plus an impressive 100% pass rate in Art with A*-B grades. As last year, we are very proud of our BTEC Social Care students who all achieved Distinction*.
95% of students also secured their first-choice place at some of the most prestigious universities including UCL, Queen Mary, King’s College and SOAS University of London. HSC students are supported by our dedicated staff within a culture of achievement, personalised experiences and a rich variety of enrichment opportunities ensuring they develop life skills that will help them change the world in their chosen field.
HSC has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with these results highlighting the upward trajectory. We believe that the better prepared our students are for life after school, the stronger they will be. Students’ experiences are designed to supplement and complement their academic journey and through a wide range of local, national and global partnerships they experience the exceptional. In addition to a portfolio of academic accolades they also have a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience to ensure they are best positioned to thrive during their next educational challenge or when joining the world of work.
We are delighted to share the results of exceptional individual performances from a selection of our aspirational students:
· Amal achieved an incredible 3As in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, with an additional C in Further Maths. She is now looking forward to joining UCL in September to study Medicine.
· Fardowsa is looking forward to taking her next steps in her career journey in Law following an impressive set of results: Sociology (A*), Psychology (A*) and Religious Studies (A).
· Jonathan has secured a place at Coventry University after achieving Sociology (A), English Literature (B) and Film Studies (C). He will study Digital Media, with the ambition of becoming a Games Designer.

Head of Sixth Form, Fen Hewitt, commented: “These results are a real tribute to our students’ talent and dedication, along with the unrivalled support from teachers and support staff who have inspired and encouraged students to fulfil their potential. It is impressive to witness the diverse range of courses that our students are about to embark on from Medicine to Urban Landscape Architecture, and it is a credit to the whole team that they have been able to instil the knowledge and awareness of what career paths are available to this next generation facing the fourth industrial revolution. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our class of 2018!”
Acting Headteacher, Angela Rooke, added: “I am incredibly proud today. Our results mark yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements of our students and staff. They have worked tirelessly to achieve their ambitious goals and I truly believe this is just the start of some very successful careers as pioneers and leaders of the future. These results are a testament to the drive and ambition of our students who will now continue on their journey to compete with the best in the country and across the world.”
Chair of Governors, Anita Yiannoullou, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in these superb results. We are a close community with a powerful network of students, families and staff working tirelessly together for the best outcomes for our young people. As a school, we place great emphasis on working with families to protect the well-being of every young person, particularly at difficult times around revision and exams. A huge well done to our students – enjoy the celebrations with your families; you have been a credit to the school and your parents and we wish you every success in your future endeavours.”
