Giving you the EDGE
“Hornsey Sixth Form provides us with the opportunities and support that help us to excel and gives us the edge for when we leave.”
We realise that sixth form needs to prepare you not only for great academic success but equip you with the skills and experience necessary for you to excel in your chosen path. The world is becoming increasingly competitive and entering the world of work, embarking on an apprenticeship or studying at university requires the very best of who you are. Recent studies show that your generation will most probably have up to eleven different jobs in your working life. With this in mind, it is essential that you are able to quickly demonstrate that you have the transferable skills, resilience and solution focused mind-set to thrive. At HSC giving you the EDGE means ensuring you can stand up to this challenge.
We are a small but mighty sixth form and realise the importance of partnerships. In addition to your subject teachers you will be assigned a lead teacher who will guide and challenge you throughout your sixth form journey. We make the most of every minute and build in time for you to express your views, meet with professionals from an array of different industries (during professional careers development) and have a specialist Careers Information and Guidance councillor who can offer impartial, but impactful, advice. We will get you to the very top. We are partnered with The Access Project; a charity deigned to prepare you for applying to Russell Group universities; through offering: free one-to-one tuition sessions, university trips, mock interviews and UCAS training. The good news? All of this is free!
Enrichment is something we take very seriously and as a result we have built in time within our school day for you to explore new experiences and develop your skill set. Just like at university, Wednesday afternoons are an opportunity for you to take part in sport, mentor younger students’, work at primary schools - the list of opportunities is always growing. If you have an idea, you are encouraged to share it with us and together we will make it happen.
We value student views and for any budding entrepreneurs, political lobbyists or lawyers you will find there is an abundance of opportunities to get involved with including debates and the Senior Prefect Team which together help to shape the direction of this dynamic sixth form. We are here to make things happen, to make a difference to your future and inspire new ideas. This year we are proud to be hosting a launch event for The Economist and continue our work with National Careers Services and Cloud Dog offering international experiences to help challenge yourself and nurture your interests.
