Why study Science BTEC?
Choosing to study BTEC level 3 National Applied Science Qualification is a good decision as more and more employees are looking for well-qualified people to work in the fields of science technology. The BTEC course will sharpen your skills for employment or further study.
What will I study?
The course is designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in the range of vocational sectors. It gives you the skills and understanding you need for work.
You will study 3 units in year 12 which are the mandatory units, which is broadly equivalent to one GCE AS level.
Having successfully completed the core units you will progress to BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science.
How is the course assessed?
The BTEC nationals are assignment based. The teacher / assessor who have delivered the unit of work will assess the work you have done and ensure that it meets the correct criteria. Each unit is assessed using the grading grid and grading criteria at Pass, Merit and Distinction.
You must achieve a pass for all the PASS Grading Grid criteria. Once you have achieved a PASS criteria, your teacher (Assessor) will give you guidance and support as to what you need to do in order to achieve a Merit award. Once you have successfully completed your Merit award you can then move onto the Distinction award.
You do not have to go any further than a PASS award, however, we encourage ALL students to make as much effort as possible. Therefore we encourage you to achieve the maximum award on every occasion.
Work is internally verified by an approved moderator and assessor of the BTEC courses.
What grades do I need to study Science BTEC at HSC?
You are expected to have achieved at least a pass at level 2 certificate in BTEC applied science. You should also have a D or above in maths and English.
