Why study Dance?
A Level Dance is an extremely demanding subject both physically and theoretically, however it is also very rewarding. Through Dance you will learn how to express your emotions and you will acquire a broad understanding of various different traditions.
A previous student who studied A level Dance at HSC includes Omari Carter who performs for the world famous Stomp dance troupe that has performed at such events as The Royal Variety Show and the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
What will I study?
Along with your study you will be expected to participate in dance workshops and performances with professional dancers and dance companies.
Unit 1: Understanding Dance
Unit 2: Section A - Solo Choreography & Performance
Section B - Performance in a duo/group
Unit 3: Appreciation, Content & Context
Unit 4: Section A - Group Choreography
Section B - Solo Performance
To support learning, students will also be expected to attend technique classes, rehearsals and theatre trips in addition to their lessons.
How is the course assessed?
The AS practical exam is internally examined and then externally moderated. The A2 practical exam is performed externally. AS and A2 written examinations are both externally examined.
What grades do I need to study Dance at HSC?
As well as Dance GCSE grade A* - C (or an extensive Dance background) students will need at least an English GCSE grade A* - C.
