Life at HSC

There have been a diverse range of trips this year from our A-level (AS and A2) Film students attending the National Film Festival, to our A-level (AS and A2) Art students spending a day drawing at the National Art Gallery and also a group of our Year 12 and 13 students going to 20 Cabo Square to be trained for this year's Policy League Competition run by The Economist Education Foundation!

Hornsey Sixth Form College is very supportive, it's almost like a little family. You really do come out of your comfort zone and grow into a young independent individual.

Sixth Form Peer Leadership

Hornsey Sixth Form College has an extensive peer mentoring scheme that promotes student well-being and student voice.  Many Sixth Form College students have taken on peer leadership roles, giving them the opportunity to extend their skills and personal qualities. The Peer Leadership Programme provides students with training and experience in the following areas:

  • Leadership Styles & the Context for Peer Leadership

  • Peer Mentor Appraisal Systems & Peer Leader Clusters

  • Confidentiality & Boundary Setting

  • Supervision Skills & Effective Communication

  • School Behaviour Policy & Assertive Discipline

  • Anti-bullying Strategies & Conflict Resolution Skills

This bespoke training and experience has provided students with many transferable skills that are valuable at University and the workplace alike.

Individual Support

All of our students are known to staff ensuring that each student receives on-to-one feedback and support to make rapid progress at AS and A level. Our annual student feedback show that students welcome this additional support, citing examples of individual coaching for university interviews, mentoring and staff ‘going the extra mile’ to ensure that students achieve the highest grades at A level to secure university entry.

Social Life

Hornsey Sixth Form College provides students with opportunities to experience a wide range of social activities and events throughout the year.  We encourage our students to take responsibility in organising their own social events and do this through an Events Committee and Sixth Form College Leadership Team made up of Sixth Form Council representatives.  These bodies have successfully organised trips, alongside regular social events throughout the year such as cinema and theatre trips.  Students at the College collaborate well together in a caring and mutually supportive environment.  The dedicated Sixth Form area includes a common room, ICT suite and dedicated tutorial and classroom spaces allowing relationships to be built and flourish.
