Hornsey Girls meet the Mandela family!

Hornsey School for Girls has been provided with a unique opportunity to work alongside The Girls’ Network, an organisation dedicated to inspiring and empowering girls from the least advantaged communities. The Girls’ Network encourages girls to set high aspirations and develops their confidence and self-motivation by connecting them with a mentor and a network of positive female role models.

“The Girls’ Network is helping young women believe in themselves and achieve their potential. The mentoring scheme is a fantastic way to empower young women, by connecting them to inspiring female role models. I cannot think of a better way to break down the barriers to girls getting on in life, whether in education or in the workplace.”

As part of their life-changing work, The Girls’ Network has exclusively invited five of our Year 10 girls to attend an intimate Q&A session with Nelson Mandela’s daughter and granddaughter, followed by an exhibition focused on Nelson Mandela’s life on the 22nd June 2017. Our girls have been incredibly lucky to benefit from this project and its opportunities; having already attended events and visits led by inspiring women, including the launch of the ‘Female Lead’ publication, held at the Science Museum and received 1:1 sessions with senior or influential mentors.

Our students are looking forward to representing Hornsey School for Girls as ambassadors for the event- almost as much as we are looking forward to hearing about all session! All students are incredibly grateful for the host of opportunities the project has provided and eagerly await future events. Stay posted for more information about how the girls got on.
